SUSTAINABILITY
Beyond solar power
The Northern Rivers region of NSW and the Gold Coast is a truly incredible, natural section of the world.
As the local builder in Northern NSW for Luxury Resort Homes, Ocean One Homes takes it to the next level with sustainable solutions designed to add value to your home, our community and the natural wonder of our region.
Sustainable construction is so much more than double glazed windows and a 5000 litre water tank.
Truly sustainable construction considers the impact of a home on the environment, the lives of the people producing the labour and materials for your home, the economic impact on the local community and the methods in which the home is brought together. Elements of the build such as transport, waste, energy consumption and labour are just the tip of the iceberg.
We take sustainability seriously and use an all round approach to ensure that our homes are built with full awareness of the human, environmental and economic impact of the choices that we make before, during and after construction.
These are just some of the key areas of sustainability we are focused on.
LOCAL ECONOMY
All of our building products are sourced from local, small and medium size Australian businesses and we only use the corporates where we have no other option.
ETHICAL SUPPLY
When building products come from outside Australia are required for the project we place a specific focus on European, USA and Middle Eastern Products. We always deal directly with the overseas suppliers and they have all been vetted over many years to ensure that their production and workplace practices are ethical and safe, that their workers are being paid fairly and that there is no child or slave labour being used. It sounds terrible but it does happen and, sadly, many homes and apartment buildings in Australia are filled with products that don't pass this test.
OFF-THE-GRID AND SOLAR
Are you looking to reduce your power bills? Perhaps you want a full off-the-grid solar and energy solution. Explore the options and find out what level of sustainable energy supply best suits your requirements.
WATER AND WASTE TREATMENT
Water is our most precious resource and there are many ways that we can help maximise and preserve it. Check out our water collection systems, our treatments systems and, for the right home, our full service wastewater and town water treatment systems. With the right system, even a fully suburban home on a small lot of land can treat and reuse water for irrigation!
LATEST TECHNOLOGIES
To stay up to date with the ever evolving world of sustainable building I am studying at university and liaise with scientists and experts in sustainable construction on a regular basis. A true passion of mine, I have followed new technologies over the last two decades in an effort to contribute to a more sustainable building world. If there is something specific you would like for your home or you have an idea, we can explore your options and work with our team of experts to find a suitable solution for your home and your budget.
FOOD PRODUCING GARDENS
Make the most of every square meter and turn the empty or unusable space in your backyard into a food producing garden. Depending on the size of your backyard we can create organic herb and vegetable gardens, with or without fruit trees, strategically laid out and planted so you can enjoy your own fresh fruit and vegetables.
NON TOXIC AND SAFE
A standard build normally includes a variety of chemicals and toxins that are potentially harmful to the human body. In fact new homes go through an 'off-gas' period during and for some months after the build and this 'off-gas' process can be extremely toxic if correct selection of safe products has not been followed. Whether it be the paints (paints can be a major issue), insulation materials , carpets, sealers or the sheeting used there are non-toxic options that are not only better for your health but friendly to allergy sufferers. We also consider lighting and the different types of lighting and how they can affect mood, sleep patterns and general health. You home should be your sanctuary, a place where you are safe. These rarely considered factors are key elements of your new home.
